A shower door sweep is a clear PVC strip that clips onto the bottom edge of the glass. To replace it, note the glass thickness (6, 8, 10 or 12 mm), slide the old sweep off sideways, clean the edge, cut the new sweep to the door width and push it on from the end with the drip fin facing into the shower. The fin should just touch the tray.
IllustrativeSweep shapes
| Shape | Where | Job |
|---|---|---|
| Bottom sweep with drip fin | Bottom edge of hinged doors | Stops water running out |
| Bubble / bulb seal | Gap between glass and wall | Fills small side gaps |
| Magnetic seal | Where two glass doors meet | Closes the door line |
| Soft-fin sweep | Sliding doors | Brushes the track |
Step by step
- Measure the glass thickness – the sweep must match it.
- Slide the old sweep off the end of the glass (warm it with a hair dryer if stiff).
- Clean off soap scum.
- Cut the new sweep 1–2 mm shorter than the glass width.
- Push it on from the end; check the fin faces inward.

Quick questions
Why does my shower sweep leak?
The fin is too short, faces the wrong way or has hardened. Replace it with the correct height for the gap.
How often should a shower sweep be replaced?
When it yellows, hardens or stops touching the tray – clear PVC ages with hot water and cleaners.
Need a seal for this?
Send your section, gap size or a photo of the old seal – Dora replies usually within 2 hours. Shower door seals are available from 10 m.
