Push-on edge trim grips the edge with metal clips or wire inside the U-channel, so it needs no glue. Choose a trim whose grip range covers your panel thickness, start at the least visible point, press the trim on by hand along the edge and tap it home with a rubber mallet. Leave a few millimetres extra at the end and butt the joint tightly.
IllustrativeChoose the grip range
Measure the panel or flange thickness with callipers. The trim's grip range must include it – e.g. 1–2 mm for thin sheet, 2–4.5 mm for thicker flanges. With a sealing bulb, also check the bulb height against the gap. See the C-series size chart and the grip range guide.
Step by step
- Clean the edge and remove burrs.
- Start at the bottom or a hidden point, not on a corner.
- Press the trim on by hand along the whole edge.
- Tap it fully home with a rubber mallet.
- On tight corners, don't cut – bend the trim; for sharp 90° corners cut a small V notch in the back.
- Cut the end a few mm long and push the joint together.
PVC or EPDM trim?
PVC trim is economical and comes in many colours; EPDM trim stays flexible in the cold and lasts longer outdoors. Both are available with a steel clip carrier.
Quick questions
Does edge trim need glue?
No. The metal carrier grips the edge. Glue is only used on very thin or smooth edges where trim could be pulled off.
Can edge trim go around curves?
Yes – the clip carrier bends; on tight inside curves, notch the back of the trim.
Need a seal for this?
Send your section, gap size or a photo of the old seal – Dora replies usually within 2 hours. Edge trim & U-channel are available from 10 m.
