Measure the total thickness of the edge the trim will sit on (metal plus paint or coating), then choose an edge trim whose grip range has that thickness near the middle – for example a 1–3 mm trim for a 2 mm panel. Trim used at the top or bottom limit of its range either falls off or splits.

Typical grip ranges
| Grip range | Typical use |
|---|---|
| 0.5–1.5 mm | Thin sheet, plastic panels, cabinet edges |
| 1–2 mm | Car body flanges, light enclosures |
| 1–3 mm | General sheet metal, doors |
| 2–4 mm | Heavier flanges, machinery guards |
| 3–5 mm and up | Thick plates, glass edges |
Indicative bands; the real range depends on the section and carrier. We make trim to your edge thickness.
Plain U, metal carrier or bulb?
Plain PVC U is for covering edges where nothing pulls on it. A steel clip carrier inside the U grips much harder and is used on vehicles and doors. Add a top or side bulb when the trim must also seal a door, hatch or panel.
Material
PVC for interiors and colours; EPDM for outdoor, vehicles and boats; co-extruded hard + soft + sponge where one profile needs a rigid grip and a soft seal.
Quick questions
How do I fit edge trim round a curve?
Trim with a steel clip carrier bends round curves; start at the bottom centre and press it on by hand or with a rubber mallet, without stretching.
Need a seal for this?
Send your section, gap size or a photo of the old seal – Dora replies usually within 2 hours. Edge trim & U-channel are available from 10 m.
