Replace a trunk seal when water collects in the boot, the bulb is flattened or cracked, or the seal no longer grips the flange. Most trunk seals are push-on EPDM profiles: a U-channel with a steel carrier that clips onto the body flange and a sponge bulb that the lid closes onto. Match the flange thickness (grip range) and the bulb height.
IllustrativeSigns it has failed
- Water or damp carpet in the boot after rain or a car wash
- Bulb flattened, cracked or torn
- Seal lifts off the flange at corners
- Exhaust or road smell in the cabin
What to measure
| Measure | Tells you |
|---|---|
| Flange thickness | Grip range of the U-channel |
| Gap between flange and closed lid | Bulb height |
| Total length round the opening | Order length |
| Bulb position | Top or side bulb |
Fitting
Start at the bottom centre, push the channel on by hand all round, ease it into the corners without stretching, tap home with a rubber mallet and butt the ends. Close the lid gently the first time.
Quick questions
Can a trunk seal be repaired?
Short tears can be patched, but a flattened bulb won't seal again – replace it.
Do you supply trunk seals for fleets and workshops?
Yes – push-on EPDM seals with side or top bulb, from 10 m, in the grip range you need.
Need a seal for this?
Send your section, gap size or a photo of the old seal – Dora replies usually within 2 hours. Automotive weatherstrips are available from 10 m.
